Flat Stanley visits Asia

We had another visitor from the states visit us. His name is Flat Stanley. Our friend, Eric Miller, and other students at The Bresnahan School had an assignment to send Flat Stanley to many destinations all over the world. Eric chose to begin F. Stanley's adventure in Switzerland. Jane was pleasantly surprised, and honored, to receive him. He loved the chocolate and the Alps. He came to Singapore, but quickly left on a business trip to Korea with Jed. Then he was off again with Alona to the Philippines for two weeks! He returned to Singapore the same time as Kyle, so they spent a lot of time together. They even flew home to Boston together. Here is a picture of him on the Singapore Flyer. Eric, I bet this little guy traveled the most miles in the class!
And Kyle, here is that dream car of yours...

A special visitor from home

We were so happy that Kyle could spend his spring break with us in Singapore! Thank you, Bob and Renate, for allowing him to visit. Evan, Jane and Leah had school while Kyle was here, so I was able to show Kyle around a bit. Kyle was the photographer, so all the pictures are in his camera.
A friend of mine took these photos, so they are the only ones I have. This day we were on a tour of the Telok Ayer neighborhood with the American Woman's Association. The women loved having Kyle with us, and he was a trooper! This street was the original coast line of Singapore. Travelers would arrive here during the monsoon season and want to give thanks for their safe arrival. Naturally, temples were built...a Jewish synagogue, Muslim mosque, Christian church, Hindu and Buddhist temples. They are all still active today! Singapore is a place where your race and religion are respected and celebrated. Peoples "differences" are honored. This is wonderful to see and feel.
Kyle was willing to trek through the tallest nature reserve, through rain forest, the zoo, eat local food, stroll through Chinatown and the wet market in Little India. He rode the Singapore Flyer-the worlds tallest ferris wheel, and was brave enough to plunge over the river on the "extreme swing." He and Evan played tennis, basketball with the locals, billiards with the amahs, and exbox. They swam and tried wakeboarding. He spent one day at school with Evan. They had a wonderful week!
Kyle, maybe you could post some of your favorite photos on our blog. I would love to see them!

Still more...

More Beijing photos...

Leah and Lauren's trip to Beijing

Leah and I had the opportunity to travel to China with some SAS students. We were on the go from morning until night. Leah attended a local school three mornings. That was exciting! We saw blue sky every day, except the last. We were told not to expect to see the sky due to pollution, but whatever Beijing is doing to clean up the city for the Olympics must be working. The streets were also very clean, except for the spit. Our last day was spent on the Great Wall. We started climbing in light rain, but a few of us persisted on up, and were rewarded by snow fall. Unfortunately, the photos are not clear, but the experience of standing on one of the Seven World Wonders will be clear in our minds and hearts forever.

Emerald Hill neighborhood stroll

I wandered through an old plantation neighborhood that has managed to preserve some of the traditional buildings, homes and shops. Now there is a school, bars and restaurants, and the bustling Orchard Road all around this little enclave.
