Summertime Golf in Batam, Indonesia

Hi everyone. It has been a while since we posted. That's because its summertime and Lauren and I have been apart most of the summer. I know Lauren and the girls have enjoyed their time in the US. Evan enjoyed it as well, but now is back living the bachelor life with me. It has been a slow summer, but Lauren and the girls arrive back this week and it will be good to be back together again.

One opportunity I took advantage of over the summer was to play some golf over in Batam, Indonesia. Batam is an island off of Singapore and you take a 30 minute ferry to get there. Evan and I met John when we played in an American Club tournament the day after Christmas. Even though Evan and I played some terrible golf that day, John was kind enough to invite me to be part of their group that goes to Batam just about every Saturday. Since Christmas, I have been receiving weekly emails from a good ole' Texan named Wayne inviting me to join their outings. With baseball, softball, and all the other activities during the year I really never had time to join until this summer. However, for the past 5-6 Saturdays I have joined them for some great golf (the days were great, the setting was great, the golf....well not so great).

John and Wayne are both from Texas, but they started a business here in Singapore quite a few years ago. They have been great golf companions. The course is designed by Greg Norman and is a nice layout. However, much to Wayne's and my chagrin, there are bunkers everywhere. While some travel to Batam to go to the beach, we travel there to play golf and end up at the beach!

As you can see in the photos, the young women from the local "Kampongs" are employed as caddies. They are very nice and are quite good at reading greens. Wayne and John have taken one of them under their wing and last week brought her a used set of clubs as a gift. They get to play every Monday.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pictures. If anyone has any pointers to fix the swing of the guy in the red shirt, send them along. Also, note from the last picture that you do not often look for lost balls. It can be hazardous!

Best,

Jed
